46- Mimosa amarela - Chamaecrista flexuosa (L.) Greene (Leguminosae)

 

Small plant, shrub, up to 50 cm high, stiff branches and in general rust color. Alternate, compound leaves, composed of many oblong leaflets, 1 mm wide by 10 mm long. Yellow flowers, usually solitary, with five petals, starting from the leaf armpits. Vegetable type fruit.

 

Distribution: In the cerrado physiognomy, and in disturbed areas.

Situation in São Paulo: Common on the edges of roads and highways, in the peripheral regions, as well as in vacant lots.

How to plant: The transplant of seedlings is done keeping the roots intact and the root ball, or by seeds, which grow quickly.

Uses: Potential as ornamental, due to its characteristic appearance and exuberant flowering. It can be used as a bee plant, eagerly visited by bees and other pollinators.
